Community centre for creativity, culture and the arts based in St. Johns Church in Broughton, Salford
The Hive at St. Johns
The Hive at St. Johns is a Charitable Incorporated Organization (CIC), formed in order to transform a redundant historical building into a community centre for creativity, culture and the arts.
As a community centre, The Hive at St. Johns will provide a unique suite of services, activities, programmes and events, engaging local citizens and community-minded professionals from across the cultural and creative industries.
St. Johns Church
The heart of this business concept is St. Johns Church: a stunning Georgian building which was once the centre of a thriving community and now sits empty and unused, its future is now uncertain.
The building was designed by Richard Lane, one of Manchester’s most prominent Victorian architects. The 1000-seat building also featured stained glass windows designed by Pugin, the iconic British architect.
The community project
A result of The Hive in The Cliff project, Building the Hive in Broughton will be led by The Hive at St. Johns. The current aim is to raise money to bring this programme from paper through to reality.
This project is the current and primary work of The Hive at St. Johns: working to bring the building’s transformation and a range of fantastic opportunities to life for the Broughton community and surrounding areas.
